TKOL desktop love

I will never be able to fully express my gratitude and respect for Radiohead.

"The King of Limbs in the Bad Wood" ~ inspired by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood.

...and a slightly more portraitic version. Art experiments by Emmy Bello. Thom Yorke's image borrowed from 2 Minute Silence (this happens to be my favorite capture ever of that face; the expression is unfathomable). Large resolutions available, contact me.

Spring and the wonderful world of beads

На сайта на Биляна ще намериш бижу за всяка женска душа, от A Native Cosmic Relative до The Pilgrim's Sweetheart. Let Red follow Black to his tempting hollow. Looking for The Lost Explorer

"Wolf Parade's Expo 86 has been the soundtrack of the summer of 2010 for me. When I first heard "Yulia" my head was flooded with images. The song is totally cinematic and has an urgent, longing drive that I wanted to try and express through images.

During the Cold War at the beginning of the Space Age, the Soviet Union was rumored to have two space programs - one a public program, the other a secret 'black' one, in which dangerous and sometimes downright suicidal missions were attempted. Cosmonauts would be shot into orbit without the means or resources to get them home, stranded in an expanding orbit around earth, slowly pulling away, frozen in space for eternity.

I wanted to create a kind of formal and slightly nostalgic vibe. At the same time, I wanted it to feel untethered to an exact era -- not specifically in the past. I shot in Portland Oregon and a little in Romania and I was really inspired by Russian cinema and Communist propaganda posters." ~ режисьорът Scott Coffey

The Gardener's nightmare

"Being schooled after the Second World War in an education system still behind the times, hampered by pre-war attitudes, and hardly attuned to a generation ejoying the peace and relative prosperity not afforded to their parents, the late fifties were an era of opportunity for teenagers, unlike any before.

Railing against the school system, Waters (Roger) would later describe an episode that encapsulated his contempt. Deciding to seek revenge on the school's gardener for some real or imagined slight, he and a group of co-conspirators went into the school orchard with a stepladder and singled out the gardener's favourite tree. They then proceeded to eat every apple on the tree, taking care not to remove any from the branches."

Nuit Blanche and the Great Illusion

Just like love, none of this is real. But it doesn't hurt to dream forever, they say...

Watching the making doesn't even come close to spoiling the experience. I think it's even necessary... [Thnx to Ray]

For camera geeks only!

Okay, so I'm one of the above mentioned fruitcakes. Naturally, I get kind of weаk in the knees when I see a camera, made from a sock, or the mouthwatering design of my next birthday cake (preferably in combination with the real D700, if you please). Aferim!

Nature Can't Be Recycled

Ogilvy&Mather Romania, 2007.

Music Visuals pt.II: Kevin Westenberg

British photographer Kevin Westenberg shoots all of our favorite music legends. He has shot so many awesome portraits of Radiohead, U2, Nick Cave, Oasis, Richard Ashcroft, even David Lynch, that there's just no need to say anything else. Take a look at his website. If you want to see more photos, just type his name in Google and you will be amazed just how many of the gorgeous photographs you see in magazines and online are his. His portfolio also includes numerous album cover artwork. Enjoy!

P.S. I actually bought the Mojo edition with Nick Cave on the cover :)

Music Visuals pt.I: Eye of the Storm

Storm Thorgerson is one of my primary inspirations in the realm of visual art. A fine artist most known for his exceptional and numerous album artworks, he is also a photographer and loves to experiment with models and film, mainly to support his design concepts. On top of all, he has a degree in filmmaking, which only contributes to his visions, which are beautiful in a challenging way.

Here is a bio in his own words: "Born, if that's the word, in Potters Bar Middx, in 1944, schooled at Summerhill free school and then Brunswick primary Cambridge. Secondary education at local grammar Cambs. High School for boys (no girls) and BA Hons in English and Philosophy from Leicester University (63 - 66) and finally an MA in film and TV from the Royal College of Art, London (66 - 69). Formed Hipgnosis in 1968 with Aubrey Powell (Po), a graphic design studio specializing in creative photography and working mainly in the music business designing album covers for many rock 'n' roll bands including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, 10cc, Yes, Peter Gabriel, Black Sabbath, Paul McCartney, Syd Barrett and Styx, amongst others. Started a series of books on album cover art with Roger Dean called Album Cover Album, and with Hipgnosis wrote and designed Walk Away Rene 1978 and The Goodbye Look 1982 about their own stuff.

In 1983 Storm, along with Po and Peter Christopherson, formed Green Back Films and embarked on producing numerous rock videos including material for Paul Young, Yes, Nik Kershaw, Robert Plant, Interferon, Nona Hendryx, Big Country and many others and also long forms for Barry Gibb (Voyager), Yumi Matsutoya (Train of Thought), and Channel Q a heavy metal compilation for Polygram Records. Green Back and its partners went up in smoke in 1985.
Storm went solo (because he had to) and continued making videos ("Learning To Fly" for Pink Floyd won "best director" at Billboard), and tried his hand at commercials (Tennants 'One Great Thing' won Golden Rose in Scotland). He continued designing album covers for Pink Floyd, Catherine Wheel, Alan Parsons, Anthrax, amongst others, and branched out into documentaries, making "Art Of Tripping" for Ch 4 in 1993, a two part exploration of the connections between drugs and artists.

In 1994 Storm directed six short films for Pink Floyd which were screened at concerts during their world tour, and also an hour long science documentary on the Hubble Constant for Equinox called "The Rubber Universe". In 1997 he compiled a book of his images for Pink Floyd called 'Mind Over Matter' published by Sanctuary Books. And in 97/98 wrote and directed an hour long documentary for Discovery channel about the (non) existence of Aliens subtitled "Are We Alone?" (Or was it We Are Alone)."

Storm continues to design album covers for Phish, Ian Dury, Cranberries, Pink Floyd, Catherine Wheel, Alan Parsons, Ween, The Mars Volta, to execute assorted graphics for DVDs, websites, programs, T-shirts and so on, and to direct the occasional film. He has written and designed several books including "100 Best Album Covers" (Dorling Kindersley) and "Eye Of The Storm".
